Hôm nay, ngày 18 tháng 12 năm 2024, trường THCS Ngoại ngữ long trọng tổ chức Hội nghị triển khai đề án ESL tại UMS với sự hướng dẫn nhiệt tình của các Thầy/Cô trong Ban Chỉ đạo đề án đến từ trường Đại học Ngoại ngữ, Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội:

Nội dung hội nghị:

Mở đầu Hội nghị là phần giới thiệu chung về đề án “Mô hình trường dạy, học và sử dụng tiếng Anh như ngôn ngữ thứ hai” với mục tiêu xây dựng Hệ sinh thái tiếng Anh tại UMS.

Tăng cường dạy và học kết hợp kiểm tra đánh giá bằng tiếng Anh.

 

Báo cáo thành tích:

Cô Phạm Minh Huệ – Tổ trưởng Tổ Ngoại ngữ trình bày những hoạt động sáng tạo trong các môn học như Native, Public Speaking, đọc Văn học Anh Mỹ, thể dục bằng tiếng Anh, thuyết trình nhân các dịp lễ hội, và các biển hiệu song ngữ trong trường.

Cô Bùi Phương Anh – Giáo viên Sinh học chia sẻ những bước đầu tích hợp tiếng Anh vào giảng dạy và đánh giá.

Thầy Nguyễn Hoàng Giang – Phó Hiệu trưởng báo cáo các lớp học nâng cao năng lực tiếng Anh cho giáo viên được tổ chức đều đặn hai buổi/tuần.

 

Định hướng và giải pháp:

Thầy Đỗ Tuấn Minh đã đánh giá cao những đóng góp và thành tích cao trong quá trình thực hiện đề án ở những bước đầu tiên, đồng thời Thầy nhấn mạnh lại tầm vai trò quan trọng cũng như định hướng một số phương án chính cho dự án ESL.

Lời nhắn nhủ từ thầy Nguyễn Lân Trung:

“Mục tiêu lớn nhất là Kiến thức. Tiếng Anh sẽ là công cụ để truyền tải tri thức và phát triển cá nhân. Hãy tự tin, tận dụng công nghệ và không ngừng học hỏi để nâng cao năng lực.”

CONFERENCE ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ESL MODEL IN TEACHING, ASSESSMENT, AND USING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE AT UMS

Today, December 18, 2024, the UMS Secondary School solemnly held a conference to implement the ESL Project with enthusiastic guidance from members of the Project Steering Committee from ULIS, Vietnam National University, Hanoi: Mr. Do Tuan Minh (Chairman of the University Council); Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung (Former Vice Rector of the University); Mr. Hoa Ngoc Son (Vice Rector); Mrs. Nguyen Thuy Lan (Head of the Training Department); Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (Secretary of the Youth Union), Mr. Nguyen Doan Phuong, Mr. Trinh Hai Tuan along with other committee members.

The conference began with an overview of the project titled “The Model of Teaching, Learning, and Using English as a Second Language”. Its main objectives aim to establish an English ecosystem at UMS by enhancing teaching, learning, and assessment through English; developing English teaching materials; focusing on improving English proficiency in and outside the classroom for both teachers and students; actively participating in activities, competitions, and short-term exchange programs for both students and teachers; and practicing the English language culture regularly within the school environment.

The second part of the conference included reports on achievements during the first four months of implementing this important project. Mrs. Pham Minh Hue, Head of the Foreign Language Department, highlighted activities within English classes, such as Native, Public Speaking, and students’ activities like reading English-American literature, doing exercises in English, drawing, and presenting in English (on national holidays and festivals like Halloween, Easter, etc.). She also mentioned the increasing presence of English signage in classrooms and function rooms and the organization of bilingual events, such as the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20), and UMS’ Got Talent. Next, Mrs. Bui Phuong Anh, a Biology teacher in the Natural Sciences Department, presented the process and achievements of integrating English into lectures and assessments across all subjects at UMS. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Vice Principal, briefly reported on teacher evaluation and capacity-building programs, noting that two English proficiency enhancement classes for teachers were conducted twice a week.

The core part of the conference was the orientation and further clarifications on the ESL Project. Mr. Do Tuan Minh, Chairman of the University Council, outlined the opportunities, challenges, and solutions for implementing this project. He emphasized short-term and long-term plans for the development of UMS, with practical solutions to address difficulties.

Following that, Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung, Former Vice Rector, shared his personal experiences in learning foreign languages. He emphasized the project’s ultimate goal: Knowledge over Language. English, as a second language, should serve as a tool for conveying knowledge, personal development, and global communication. He offered valuable advice: Do not feel inferior, rely on technology, integrate English into assessments, and maintain a spirit of continuous learning and self-improvement.

The final remarks came from Mr. Hoa Ngoc Son, Vice Rector, who expressed great confidence in the successful implementation of the ESL Project at UMS. He encouraged all staff and students to work together towards a brighter future for the school.

The conference concluded with short, enthusiastic exchanges showing support and commitment to the ESL Project. Best wishes for the project’s remarkable success in the near future.
